StoreProtect – Protection for your goods in store
When storing with Storebox, we require all customers to arrange contents cover for their goods. Our Conditions of Agreement restrict liability to negligence only up to a maximum of €100 and require you to arrange insurance cover for the maximum replacement value of your property.
We can protect your goods under the StoreProtect solution we have in place with the self-storage industry specialist brokers, Basil Fry & Company. With StoreProtect, we will accept liability for any damage to your goods up to the maximum replacement value you have selected during the booking process.
StoreProtect offers similar protection to insurance, but it removes the hassle of having to manage a separate annual policy. StoreProtect operates in line with your storage agreement, so the protection will not lapse without your knowledge.
With StoreProtect, we will accept liability for any damage to your goods up to the maximum replacement value you have selected.
If you are using household insurance, you may have limited protection for your goods. StoreProtect is a tailormade solution for self-storage that will protect your goods in case of an unexpected event.
The StoreProtect charges will be based on the size of your unit and the maximum replacement value for your goods in storage. You can select the value of StoreProtect for your unit when you book online or over the phone.
When choosing StoreProtect, you must declare the most accurate value of your goods as possible so that your goods are covered in the event of a claim. Goods will be repaired or replaced on a ‘new for old’ basis of settlement, so the value should be calculated with this in mind.
If the value of your stored goods changes during the time you are storing with us (increases or decreases) we ask that you update us on any changes via the Online Check In form or by email. This will then be updated on your account, the charges will be amended accordingly, and you will be notified of the change.
If you are storing goods with a maximum replacement value exceeding €25,000 please get in touch with us for a bespoke quote.
It is a requirement for all customers to declare a suitable maximum replacement value and to ensure it remains adequate for the full storage period.
Your maximum replacement value must represent the total current cost of replacing all stored property as new, except the following items where the replacement cost is calculated differently:
- Household linen and clothing, motorcars, motorbikes, boats, caravans, motorhomes and any other motorised vehicle, where the Replacement Value allows for the age, quality, degree of use, existing damage and consequent market value;
- Any goods which cannot be purchased new (such as antiques or works of art, for example), where the replacement value shall be the current market value; and
- Documents, where the Replacement Value shall be calculated as the physical cost of replacing the documents and/or cost of reprinting, re-issue and/or reconstitution, but excluding the value of the information contained in the documents
If the maximum replacement value you provide is less than the actual total replacement value of all of your property stored at the time of loss or damage, then our liability under StoreProtect will be reduced to reflect the proportion that your maximum replacement value bears to the actual total replacement value ("Proportional Reduction").
For example: If the total replacement value of your property is €10,000, but you have declared a maximum replacement value of €5,000, our liability will be reduced by 50%. So, if €3,000 worth of your property is lost or damaged, our liability would be €1,500.
We understand that the value of your items in storage may change from time to time. It is important that the maximum replacement value of your goods you have declared to us remains up to date for as long as you have goods in storage. Goods will be repaired or replaced on a ‘new for old’ basis of settlement, so the value should be calculated with this in mind.
We ask that you update us on any changes via the Online Check In form or by email. This will then be updated on your account, the charges will be amended accordingly, and you will be notified of the change.
You can find the full details of the StoreProtect agreement in our Terms and Conditions.
If you are using household insurance for external storage, you may have limited protection for your goods. The excess you will pay is likely to be high, and any large claim may affect your future premiums. There may also be limitations, such as liability for vermin claims, which can be accepted under StoreProtect, but is a typical exclusion of a standard household insurance policy.
StoreProtect is a tailormade solution for self-storage that will protect your goods in case of an unexpected event. By letting us take the risk, you avoid any factors that may affect your own policy.
Still, we understand you may already have arranged your own insurance that covers external storage. If you choose to use your own insurance, we will need to see proof of this cover within 7 days of when you start storing with us. The proof of insurance will need to be sent to us by email.
Please be aware that household insurance may only cover external storage for a limited period of time. It is your responsibility to make sure that your policy is renewed and valid for as long as you choose to store with us.
